Entries are still open for inclusion in Noble Park’s 20-year stainless steel time capsule.
As part of the elevated rail project, locals can contribute momentos such as voice recordings, old photos and drawings to the soon-to-be entombed capsule.
Noble Park Girl Guides sent in their certificates, records and the Guides pledge – which will soon be buried and then resurrected in 2038.
A resident contributed family photos taken near the sky-rail’s construction site.
The capsule helps mark the momentous change of elevated rail bridges replacing Noble Park’s elevated rail crossings.
Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams said the capsule was about “capturing the past as we start a new chapter in Noble Park’s history”.
“We are making Noble Park a better place to live, work and move around, and it’s absolutely fitting to mark that transformation with a time capsule.”
A Level Crossings Removal Authority spokesperson compared the transformation to dirt roads and paddocks making way to suburban streets.
“(It is) bringing about more rapid change to the landscape, opening up new public space and ways for people to move around the suburb.”
