A Hallam intersection will be removed by a Liberal-Nationals Government, if elected in the 24 November State Election.
The intersection at Princes Highway, Belgrave-Hallam Road and Hallam South Road would be grade-separated.
It is one of 55 congestion spots pledged for removal across the state by the Coalition, at a total cost of up to $5.3 billion.
Narre Warren North Liberal candidate Vikki Fitzgerald said South-East roads were “appallingly neglected” and without “even basic manitenance” by the Labor Government.
The upgrade would keep traffic flowing on the increasingly busy roads at the intersection, she said.
“Whenever I’m speaking to local residents or businesses they all tell me that traffic is getting worse and it’s impacting on their daily lives,” Narre Warren South Liberal candidate Susan Serey said.
“Many of our intersections have seen little change since the 1990s, so it’s time to upgrade them for 2018 and beyond,” Liberal spokesman Edward O’Donohue said.
