Police are investigating two illegal fires lit on the Eastlink Trail in Joffre Street Noble Park.
The fires were lit 300 metres apart approximately 9pm on Saturday 1 December – a day of warm temperatures and strong winds.
“It appears that a camp site had been set up where the fires have been lit, and empty alcohol containers were located nearby,” Senior Constable Jordan McKenzie of Greater Dandenong CIU said.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, temperatures at nearby Moorabbin Airport reached up to 32° Celsius that day with wind gusts of up to 63 km/h.
