A MAN has been charged with assault, false imprisonment and theft of a motor vehicle after a car was stolen and crashed into a house in Dandenong North on last Tuesday of last week.

Dandenong detectives allege the 40-year-old Dandenong man assaulted a woman several times in Lilac and Birch avenues between midnight and 5am.

Police allege that, about 5am, he stole a car and drove it 200metres before crashing through a fence and ramming the corner of a house.

An external airconditioning unit was sheared from the house as a result.

The man was remanded in custody and charged with assault, false imprisonment and theft of a motor vehicle.

Any information about the incident can be phoned to Detective Senior Constable Jodie Stoll of the Dandenong crime investigation unit on 9767 7487.
