A Mission Australia program seeks to redress what the charity calls the unwillingness of some employers to give new migrants a “fair go”.
The charity’s Transitions to Work manager Maria Kinnes said a number of employers worry about migrants’ English skills.
Dandenong-based Australian Uniform Service chief executive Matthew Del Brocco said his business got a competitive advantage from hiring people “who come here really desperate to work so they can look after their families”.
A forum will be held on the program at Ramada Encore Hotel, Dandenong, at 4.30pm today.
