Reaching out for early childhood winner

Greater Dandenong Council’s early childhood program was among the winners at the Victorian Early Years Awards this month.

The council took out the Better Access to Early Years Services award for its ‘Reaching Out’ program, setting up multicultural playgroups at Dandenong and Dandenong South primary schools and a playgroup at Dandenong library for asylum seeker families in community detention.

The program provides visits from maternal and child health nurses, language support, informal tutoring by volunteers and access to bilingual resources.
