WELLSPRINGS for Women operates out of premises in Langhorne Street, Dandenong, and is noted for its varied programs, in particular for women from diverse cultures and varied overseas countries and in helping the newcomers settle happily into a new environment.
The organisation has many friends and not the least of those offering a helping hand are students of St John’s Regional College in Dandenong who, says Wellsprings manager Veronica Hassett, raised an extraordinary amount of funds on Make a Difference Day and presented the money to Wellsprings as a surprise end of its 2012 year.
The college staff and students are noted for their thoughtfulness and it is not the first occasion they have assisted Wellsprings.
Special celebration
In her first Wellsprings newsletter for 2013, Veronica Hassett reported that among the activities in the organisation’s busy first term for the year was the celebration of International Women’s Day.
An educational session for Wellsprings students highlighted the journey of how women in the past and present worked together to achieve a better, healthy society.
Ms Hassett stated the celebrations continued on March 19 when the get-together marked Wellsprings’ partnership with the Scanlon Foundation, which funded the organisation for six years for its living and learning together project.
“We celebrated the success with launching the evaluation and the story book of our participants who accessed the program,” Ms Hassett stated.
She also mentioned that in term one that staff members attended a two-day workshop on mental health first aid. “This workshop provided us with new ways of understanding the complex issues of mental health and a good insight in how to approach somebody who might be going through a crisis.”
