Greater Dandenong mayor Angela Long has urged the state government to allocate untapped CCTV funds to the municipality. While other councils have baulked at accepting the funds, Cr Long said Greater Dandenong would “happily accept funds for further cameras”. “We know that CCTV cameras alone don’t make our suburbs safer, but we can easily find great homes for more cameras that will work in well with other initiatives.” New wireless cameras at Dandenong railway station and in Foster Street, Settlers Square and Halpin Way will be switched on on June 20. They will transmit ‘real-time’ vision to Dandenong police.
