SPRINGVALE Library is lagging behind its brethren in other cities and must expand, according to the City of Greater Dandenong mayor.
A delegation of Greater Dandenong councillors, staff and librarians visited Adelaide last week for a conference on library planning, in search of inspiration to renew the Springvale Library.
“It is quite clear that Springvale Library in relation to other libraries in Melbourne is quite deficient,” Cr Brown said.
“It is the poor relation in terms of library service delivery.”
The ageing library is too small, according to Cr Brown, and in its current state is inadequate for the demand the Springvale township places on it.
“The demand for library services has outgrown the site serviceability,” the mayor said.
“Compared to Carnegie and Footscray, those libraries beat us hands down.”
Springvale Library lags, says mayor
