Racy start to weekend

SANDOWN will host a race meeting tomorrow (Friday) afternoon on the Hillside track.
The day will recognise a talented thoroughbred sprinter with the running of the $20,000 Primacy Handicap over 1000 metres.
Prepared by David Hayes prior to his training stint in Hong Kong, Primacy was an outstanding performer and one his major wins was in the Melbourne Racing Club’s 1994 Group 1 Futurity Stakes over 1400 metres at Caulfield.
Notably, that win stopped outstanding sprinter Schillaci becoming only the third horse to win the race in three successive years.
The Futurity Stakes was first run in 1898 and only Ajax and Manikato, two of the best horses to grace the Australian turf, won in three successive years.
When Primacy won in 1994 he defeated Deposition by half a length with two-and-a-half lengths to Schillaci third.
The time of 1:22.00 run by Primacy was a new track record.
The first of eight races tomorrow will start at 12.20pm and admission will be $7 for adults, $4 concession and children under 18 accompanied by an adult free.
