THE Springvale Districts Football Club is turning its attention to the reserves grade after the Southern Football League Division Two seniors failed to break into the top four.
After losing its last-round match against Hampton the senior side finished two games away from the elusive fourth position, which was taken by Heatherton.
The Demons’ reserves side, however, made the finals and will be looking to inject some success into the club’s season.
Springvale Districts is the only club in the reserves finals not to have a side playing in the senior finals.
Allowing a greater depth to the list, the Demons’ reserves are a big chance to knock Heatherton out of finals action when they clash this Sunday at Clayton Reserve.
On Saturday, the seniors never looked like challenging the Hammers.
It was a lacklustre performance far below the expectations set by coach Tony Cooper.
“We were out there to win, it was a disappointing effort,” he said.
Knowing they would miss the finals, Cooper said the players took time to get into gear.
“There wasn’t much interest from our boys until half-time,” he said.
Looking toward next season, Cooper said the club would be on the lookout for recruits.
“We used 37 players in the senior side this season, so we’ll be looking to add depth to our lists,” he said.
A couple of senior players will be dropping back into the reserves side in their bid for premiership glory.
“Sareth Soun and Darrin Joyce will boost the reserves lineup,” Cooper said.
The reserves take to the field at 11.45am this Sunday.
