A RETIRED pensioner said he felt disgusted when he realised 10 terracotta pot plants had been stolen from the verandah of his Noble Park home.
Heinz Wilden said he could not believe it when his wife Louise told him their plants had been taken from their Moodemere St home on Saturday 6 August.
“My wife went out to collect the paper on Saturday morning and came back and said all the plants are gone.
“I went out to have a look and she was right the whole bloody lot had been taken.
“For people to come at night and nick your things, especially plants, is just a disgrace,” he said.
The former chef said they had paid $60 for the plants and had spent the past three years fertilising and caring for them.
“My wife had spent a long time nurturing them and we got the pot plants because she has trouble bending down in the garden.
“We really enjoy gardening and they were young plants that had just started to come up.
“I cannot understand why someone would do this to other people,” he said.
Mr Wilden, who migrated to Australia from Germany in 1969, said he had not told the police about the thefts and they would eventually replace the plants.
“We probably will replace the plants but not for a while, for the simple reason that we are worried that they might get pinched again,” he said.
The grandfather of eight said they had also been robbed twice and he was sure the plants would not be returned.
“My opinion is that the person who nicked them would have taken them to the market and sold them.
“We take a lot of pride in our house and we want it to look nice.
“People often come past and tell us that our house and garden look nice.
“The plants on the verandah really lifted the whole house.
“We just cannot believe that someone would do this,” he said.
