IMPROVED public transport and preventing the dredging of Port Phillip are issues high on the agenda of an Upper House candidate from the South Eastern Metropolitan Region.
Greens candidate Jim Reiher is hoping to take his minority party to victory at the November State election this year by capturing a seat under a newly revised Upper House system.
Mr Reiher told Star that a light rail service linking the region’s northern and southern-most suburbs, and safe and affordable trains and buses were Greens priorities this election.
Mr Reiher said he would only require little more than 17 per cent of the vote to gain a seat out of the five available in the South Eastern Metropolitan electorate.
Mr Reiher will share the election race with Liberal candidates Gordon Rich-Phillips, Inga Peulich and Ken Ong, and Labor candidates Gavin Jennings, Adem Somyurek and Bob Smith.
Meanwhile, the Liberal Party has announced a challenger to Lyndhurst MP Tim Holding’s seat.
Gary Anderton, 24, holds a bachelor of arts from Victoria University and currently manages a gaming and hotel venue.
A Hampton Park resident, Mr Anderton has been associated with many charities including Red Cross and has recently been campaigning to improve police services across the Lyndhurst electorate.
The Liberal Party is yet to announce candidates to challenge the seats of Dandenong MP John Pandazopoulos and Mulgrave MP Daniel Andrews.
