Funds target to be a close shave

IT is that time of year again when police officers and members of the emergency services do weird and wonderful things with their hair or shave off their locks completely to help raise funds for children’s cancer.
This Saturday, 20 August, members of Dandenong Police will shave their heads as part of Bluey Day 2005 at Bunnings Warehouse at the corner of Gladstone Road and David Street, Dandenong.
Tomorrow night (Friday) a Bluey Day charity auction dinner will also be held at the Grand International in Dandenong where sporting memorabilia will be auctioned to raise more funds.
Detective Senior Constable Paul Guergues of Dandenong CIU said the police station had raised $50,000 over the past two years, but they hoped to raise even more this week.
He said a significant portion of money from the $50 tickets would be donated to children’s cancer.
All donations from Bluey Day will be used to fund research, buy equipment and help support children with cancer or other lifethreatening childhood illnesses.
On Saturday, there will be face painting, a sausage sizzle and blue nail painting and blue hair spraying for those not quite game enough to part with their mane.
Activities start at 10am with a charity auction at 11am and the police headshave at 1pm.
Anyone interested in attending the Bluey Day charity auction dinner or making a donation can contact Det Sen Const Guergues of Dandenong CIU on 9767 7678.
