MULGRAVE MP and Parliamentary Secretary for Health Daniel Andrews has revealed the State Government will pump $300,000 into depression research.
The funding announcement comes as Star News Group and Eastern Regions Mental Health Association enter the second week of their Stop the Stigma campaign to raise awareness about mental illness and other mental health issues.
The money will be spread across 12 different projects including organisations such as Monash University, Melbourne University and Cancer Council Victoria.
Mr Andrews said this was in addition to the $3.5 million the State Government had budgeted for depression foundation Beyond Blue.
Of that money, $1.3 million will go towards Victorian Centre of Excellence Research grants and $1.5 million to research depression and related disorders.
“This year a number of research programs will examine the impact of depression on sexual relationships, problem gambling and smoking addiction,” he said.
