DANDENONG RSL’S poppy-selling efforts have blossomed into $6000 for the welfare of Victoria’s war veterans.
Welfare Committee chairman John Filmer said local veterans had been busy selling poppies at Dandenong Plaza, where they raised more than $6000.
He praised the generosity of the Dandenong community for the funds, which will go to Anzac House and be distributed for veteran welfare.
Some of the money will also be used by the Dandenong Welfare Committee for local acts of generosity, Mr Filmer said.
“People have been so generous in giving that, as a matter of fact, some are dropping money in and they don’t bother about taking their poppy,” he said.
Mr Filmer said veterans gave the leftover poppies to children of parents who had purchased a poppy.
Remembrance Day is this Saturday, 11 November.
