Lions keep eye on health

THE Lions Club of Dandenong wants people to keep a close watch on the health of their eyes.
And to ensure the community is kept up to date with the latest eye-health information, the local Lions Club plans to run frequent seminars across the city beginning next year, in one of its biggest community projects to date.
Lions Club of Dandenong member Ken Leemon said the group was inspired after seeing a similar presentation by Wheelers Hill Lions this year.
John Odgers from the Wheelers Hill branch told Star the program fell under the umbrella of the Lions Eye Health Program, and was a national project.
“We took the project on as a major project about 18 months ago,” he said.
“We have presented in excess of 60 different seminars to 3000 people in total.”
Mr Leemon said the Greater Dandenong community needed further awareness on age-related eye problems.
“The Dandenong Lions will be working with the community to help prevent vision loss, particularly from diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma,” he said.
Mr Leemon said the Lions Club would team with local eye-health experts to provide factual, in-depth seminars to the public.
The club is seeking eye-health professionals to provide medical information, and expressions of interest in attending the seminars.
