THE atmosphere was electric at Lyndale Primary School after its grade three and four students won awards for energy safety.
Origin Energy ran the national competition during its Energy Safety Week in August.
Students from around Australia were challenged to communicate their bright ideas and safety advice to the community.
Lyndale Primary School in Dandenong North hosted an energy safety extravaganza during which students displayed projects and presented their work to the whole school.
Some of the students’ achievements include a book of energy safety tips, games that helped explain energy safety and interactive slideshows presented to the rest of the school.
Judges said they were impressed with the students’ enthusiasm and commitment to spreading safety messages to their community through a wide variety of activities.
The top energy safety tips from Lyndale Primary School students were to unplug cords using the plug, not tugging the cord; never put anything other than an appliance plug in the power point; and turn off any electrical sockets not being used.
Origin Energy judges awarded $100 to the school, which teacher Illona Rapinett said would be used to buy energy safety equipment.
“We decided to get involved in Energy Safety Week as it allowed students to develop leadership skills in using energy wisely as well as sending safety messages out to others,” she said.
“The students were thrilled to have all their hard work acknowledged with a prize.”
