Bus stops to

GREATER Dandenong council has refused to scrap bus stops in Thomas Street despite calls from traders.
Star revealed in March that Thomas Street traders were concerned about the number of bus stops taking up possible parking spaces.
At the time landlord Dino Muedini said traders operating out of his shopfronts had experienced declining business since parking was removed from the middle of Thomas Street several years ago to make room for the bus stops.
A petition from the traders was tabled at the 14 March council meeting, and last week a report was returned to council from officers, recommending that the bus stops remain until a wider transport plan was formulated for Dandenong.
“This report recommends that the current bus bays on the west side of Thomas Street, between Scott Street and Walker Street, remain unaltered at this stage and the feasibility of relocating the bus bays be considered as part of the transport planning options for central Dandenong,” the report recommended.
The refusal was supported by councillors on the basis that local bus companies could not afford to lose any of the eight bays.
