Centre for job skills

THE Keysborough Learning Centre says an accredited program to help adults and school-leavers enhance their job skills has been a booming success this year.
The Community Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) program enhances skills in literacy and numeracy, industry specific skills, work related skills and personal development skills.
The program prepares people for employment and targets adults who left school prior to completing their senior years as well as current VCE students.
Subject coordinator at the Keysborough Learning Centre Vandana Dharka enthusiastically promoted Community VCAL.
“The program presents an opportunity to learn in a different atmosphere,” she said.
“It provides personal attention to create a positive, neighbourly orientated working environment within a community setting.”
Ms Dharka said Community VCAL reflected the centre’s vision of a welcoming, nurturing community where people are encouraged to grow to their full potential.
Nearing the completion of her first year of the program, Claudia Gobtsos reflected on her success in the Community VCAL program.
“It has allowed me to complete work and develop skills in areas of interest to me,” she said
“It is a platform to get my life on track and strengthened my confidence to take on new challenges and opportunities.”
Ms Gobtsos said the support of staff at the Keysborough Learning Centre was instrumental.
“They have provided various forms of practical assistance making the program enjoyable.”
Keysborough Learning Centre manager Denis Minogue said he was delighted with its success.
“Our partnership with local secondary schools, especially Coomoora Secondary College, has strengthened the centre’s ability to deliver quality and affordable further education,” he said.
“We are excited about the program moving forward in 2007.”
