THE Lions Club of Dandenong has selected Amanda Kelly to represent it at the club’s search for the national Youth of the Year.
Amanda will be judged at Lions Club regional level, and if selected, will move on to contest the national finals to be held in Sydney later this year.
Three local students contested the Dandenong title, including Jeanette Pomaci (Dandenong High School), James Caulfield (Cleeland High School) and Amanda Kelly, also a Cleeland High student.
Each candidate was assessed on aptitude, appearance and presentation. They were also required to give a five-minute response to an impromptu question from the judging panel.
Dandenong Lions Club chairperson Adrianna Bariabas said all judges were impressed by the standard of the candidates.
“If the standard of today’s youth was assessed on the three contestants we saw, the future of Australia is in good hands,” she said.
