This little piggy is coming to Dandenong Market

THE ‘Dandy Pig’ neon sign will soon again light up Dandenong’s night sky.

The refurbished sign that promoted the former Dandenong Ham and Bacon Factory was first installed on the corner of Foster and Lonsdale streets in the 1950s but taken down when the factory closed in 1989.

Greater Dandenong Council will install the sign this year at Dandenong Market, facing Lonsdale Street.

Greater Dandenong mayor Angela Long said the ‘pig’ would be ‘‘tipping its hat’’ in a highly-visible site which retained its early connections to the market and Lonsdale Street.

It is believed to be the one of the first animated signs in the region.
