DANDENONG Market’s managers were dumped last week as stallholders’
complaints about high rents and low customer numbers came to a head.
Dandenong Market Pty Ltd, headed by independent directors
appointed by Greater Dandenong council, took over management of the
147-year-old market from Savills.
Former Queen Victoria Market chief executive Jennifer Hibbs has been appointed general manager.
Board chairman Julie Busch said the reason for the replacement of Savills as manager was “commercial-in-confidence”.
Dandenong Market’s board and Greater Dandenong council refused to disclose how much rent was owed by struggling traders.
In other moves, the council has brought forward
$100,000 from its marketing budget for a winter advertising blitz and
will give out $20 vouchers to customers as part of the promotion.
Parking outside the market has been extended from two hours to three.
