Big year for Dandenong's Drum

Aussie rules: John Wood will perform in the David Williamson play The Club.

A big year of entertainment is set for Dandenong audiences in 2013, with a wide range of shows lined up for the Drum Theatre.

This year the theatre will feature 19 shows, with stand-up comic Akmal and actor John Wood — in playwright David Williamson’s classic The Club — some of the big names headlining the program, which includes comedy, plays, cabaret and dance.

This month will feature comedy trio Tripod, and Rhonda Burchmore in Cry Me a River.

Other highlights to look out for are puppet and costume show Possum Magic on May 30 and The Phantom of the Opera in June-July.

Drum Theatre director Greg Hordacre said the program should thrill audiences. “This season will entertain, fascinate and captivate,” he said.

“The 2013 Drum season reaffirms council’s commitment to bringing innovative, accessible and entertaining theatre to Greater Dandenong.”

He said another highlight would be comedy from Akmal on April 20.
