MOURNERS packed the Drum Theatre in Dandenong last Friday to pay their last tribute to distinguished World War II veteran Bill Toon.
Mr Toon died on Friday 13 April aged 86.
He owned Toons Fabrics in Dandenong for 32-years. He was a prisoner of war of the Japanese and worked on the infamous Thai-Burma railway.
Mr Toon was secretary of the Ex-PoW and Relatives Association and was instrumental in establishing the Hellfire Pass memorial on the Thai-Burma railway to honour his fallen mates.
Mr Toon was a life member of many organisations, from the RSL to the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce.
After the service Mr Toon was cremated privately.
