NOBLE Park Community Centre will launch a new advocacy initiative encouraging residents to get behind their local centre as part of Neighbourhood House Week activities next month.
Centre coordinator Sue Dixon revealed that the Friends of Noble Park Community Centre would be launched during the week.
The friends group will consist of volunteers who can help out around the centre, including at major events.
Neighbourhood House Week will run from Monday, 7 May until Sunday, 13 May.
City of Greater Dandenong mayor Youhorn Chea said neighbourhood houses such as Noble Park Community Centre engaged with the community and encouraged residents to delve into a wide range of activities.
“As well as offering the traditional services such as playgroups and senior clubs, our houses have introduced programs including belly dancing, basketball, computer programs and martial arts,” he said.
“No matter what your interests or needs are, there is sure to be a program suited to you.”
Activities on offer include tai chi, martial arts, cooking, gardening, art and creative writing as well as computer courses and bookkeeping.
During Neighbourhood House Week, the houses will showcase the array of activities they offer, giving residents a chance to find out how the centres can meet their needs and interests.
