Cr Donovan won't recontest

Greater Dandenong councillor and former mayor Paul Donovan says he will bow out from civic duties next month.

Cr Donovan simply said “it’s quits for me” when the Weekly inquired into his intentions for October’s council elections. Fellow councillors Roz Blades, Peter Brown, John Kelly, Angela Long, Jim Memeti and Maria Sampey have stated they would recontest.

Cr Yvonne Herring defiantly said: “According to some councillors I am ‘dead and buried’. But I am seriously thinking about running again.” Mayor Youhorn Chea and Cr Loi Truong did not respond before deadline.

Candidates for next month’s council election can nominate from Thursday. They must lodge a nomination form and $250 fee to the returning officer Bill Irvine by noon, September 25. Forms are available at vec.vic.gov.au

An information session for candidates will be held on Wednesday at 7pm at the council’s Springvale offices. Details: Bill Irvine, 9791 7170.
