THE Springvale Districts pummelled an injury-ravaged Lyndale by 110 points and claimed the Springvale RSL Cup in Southern Football League Division Two action on Saturday.
The undefeated and experienced Demons proved too quick and too slick for the inexperienced and error-prone Pumas on the wide expanses of Springvale Reserve.
Demons full-forward Mark Williams was on song early, taking a number of strong first-quarter marks and converting them into goals.
At quarter-time the scoreboard read 7.3.45 to 1.1.7 and Lyndale coach Paul Wilson was left scratching his head.
The Pumas, having lost two of their best midfielders in Russell Weeding and Scott Miller in the past two weeks with season-ending knee injuries, were simply unable to match the speed and skill of their Springvale opponents.
Scoring slowed in the second term as Lyndale began damage control and kept Springvale to just three goals, while the Pumas booted two of their own.
But the third quarter belonged to the Demons, who piled on seven goals to one to ensure the local derby would not be decided by any less than 100 points.
Springvale forward Gavin Vassallo was ever-present, booting five goals and racking up seemingly countless possessions across the ground.
For Lyndale, Matt Caples kicked two goals and Rob Bibby impressed, while Ragip Ragipi was again among the Pumas’ best.
On Saturday, Springvale travels to Caulfield while Lyndale hosts Hampton at Barry Powell Reserve.
