Tune in for a month of music, stories at the libraries

AUGUST is set to be an exciting month for residents visiting the Springvale and Dandenong libraries.
A series of musical Sunday afternoons will be introduced at the libraries, showcasing vocalists, songwriters and musicians.
The free series begins with Rhythms, performed by Jim Stevens, at Springvale Library from 2.30 to 3.30pm on Sunday, 12 August.
No bookings are required.
Stevens has been involved with music from a young age and boasts a tremendous repertoire ranging from classical to jazz, country, ballad, rock’n’roll, cabaret, reggae and blues.
Free storytime sessions featuring lullabies, chants and stories with plenty of audience interaction run every Thursday from 10am at Dandenong.
The sessions run from 11.30am at Springvale.
Pre-school children and their parents/carers are welcome to attend these free and interactive sessions, as are kindergartens, playgroups and children in grade prep.
Storytime sessions are not held during school holidays and bookings are not required.
Children’s author Greg Pyers will talk with school groups at Dandenong Library on Wednesday, 22 August, as part of Children’s Book Week.
Mr Pyers has written more than 110 non-fiction books for children of all ages, prepared hundreds of interpretive signs for Melbourne Zoo and Museum, and penned several articles for The Age newspaper.
School group bookings are essential.
Phone the children’s services librarian, Stephen Spillard, on 9239 5398.
Dandenong Library is located in Stuart Street, Dandenong.
Springvale Library is located at 411 Springvale Road, Springvale.
