EDUCATION Minister Julie Bishop swept through Greater Dandenong last week to announce funding and open new buildings for two Keysborough schools.
Ms Bishop was joined by Victorian senator Mitch Fifield and Liberal candidate for Isaacs Ross Fox as she visited Lighthouse Christian College and Maralinga Primary School.
The Minister announced funding of $60,000 over three years to the Lighthouse Christian College as part of the National School Chaplaincy Program.
She then officially opened a new learning area for the school, which was the result of a Federal Government grant of almost $75,000 from the $1.2 billion Investing in Our Schools program.
“I know how important this funding is to local schools and what a great difference it will make for local students to improve their learning environment,” Mr Fox said.
“The Federal Government is playing an important role in ensuring our local schools have the best possible facilities and programs in place to help local students excel in their studies.
“As a local, I have a stake in our local schools and want to see them become some of the best centres of education in the area because our local students deserve every opportunity to achieve their potential.”
The Minister also visited Maralinga Primary School, where she opened a new playground and shade structure, and inspected painting and maintenance work made possible through a $150,000 Federal Government grant.
