A COMMMUNITY event celebrating and encouraging pride in Aboriginal culture will be held at Myuna Farm later this month as part of Children’s Week.
The celebration will take place on Thursday 25 October between 10am and 1pm at the Kidds Road, Doveton, hobby farm.
Delivered by Greater Dandenong Council in conjunction with the City of Casey, Department of Human Services and Tartu-nganyin Bopop, the event is part of the Best Start program, which aims to improve the health, development, learning and wellbeing of all Victorian children.
The day caters for children aged up to five years and will provide Aboriginal families and children a forum in which to express their feelings and celebrate their heritage with the broader community.
Highlights include an Aboriginal storyteller, didgeridoo demonstrations, an Indigenous dance troupe, theatre group and interactive art project.
An Aboriginal artist will be commissioned to work with families and children to create a banner depicting Aboriginal art within a family or children theme.
The banner will be used at various events to promote the Best Start program in Greater Dandenong and Casey. Children will also have the opportunity to create and take home their own piece of Aboriginal art.
Myuna Farm will provide train and pony rides, animal petting and feeding. Other features of the day include promotional stalls and a healthy lunch.
