Man charged over death of student

HOMICIDE detectives have charged 21-year-old Doncaster man Jie Zhu with the stabbing murder of a 17-year-old Springvale student in Box Hill.
The incident took place outside a 7 Eleven store at Whitehorse Road and Station Street about 11.40 pm on the evening of Thursday 29 November.
Jie Zhu handed himself in to local police about 10pm on Tuesday.
He has been charged with one count each of murder and attempted murder and was remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this week.

A WOMAN was robbed of her handbag at knifepoint while walking through a Dandenong street last week.
At 7.20pm on 27 November the 33-year-old Dandenong woman was walking along Godrey Street when a man approached her from behind and produced a knife.
Police said he demanded the woman’s handbag and a second man then snatched it away. The handbag contained cash and other personal belongings.
The two men were then seen travelling west along Godfrey Street and are believed to have driven away in an early 90s model white stationwagon.
The man with the knife is described as 17 or 18, about 160cm, of medium build with short, dark hair.
He was wearing white shorts and a dark singlet at the time.

A MOTHER of two driving along the Monash Freeway near Dandenong North saw the moon before anyone else on 30 November after a road raging driver flashed his bare backside.
Police said the 39-year-old Eumemmerring mother had her two daughters in the car at 3.45pm when a vehicle with two men inside pulled up beside her. The driver started driving erratically and slammed on the brakes while in front of her.
Police said one of the men made offensive hand gestures towards the woman while the other pulled down his pants and flashed his buttocks.
Dandenong police are investigating.
POLICE are appalled after a man masturbated in the doorway of a Noble Park laundromat in front of two teenage girls last week.
The incident happened at 9.40pm on Thursday 29 November at the Charm Wash Laundrette in Alfred Street.
Police said two girls, one aged 12 and the other 15, were in the laundrette at the time.
Police said the man was walking past the laundromat when he attracted their attention and from the doorway unzipped his trousers and began masturbating.
Police said the girls, frightened by the ordeal, retreated to a corner of the laundrette as the man continued to masturbate.
Detective Senior Constable Stuart Freeman said police were alarmed at the incident and were calling on the public to assist in locating the man.
He is described as large, Caucasian, 175cm, balding with some grey hair and wearing a white jumper at the time.
