FIREFIGHTERS remain at the scene of a fire in a Dandenong unit complex that has closed Stud Road.
Nearby residents reported seeing a large column of smoke coming from the unit on Clow Street about 11am.
CFA crews used a crane appliance during the firefight and took about 40 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
A CFA spokeswoman said the fire had caused significant structural damage to the unit, believed to be part of a retirement village.
She said at 12.30pm that five trucks remained at the scene.
Police were also present, looking into the circumstances of the fire and blocking off Stud Road.
An ambulance was called to the scene, but Ambulance Victoria confirmed that no patients were treated.
