THE Dandenong Rangers this week signed former Canberra and Bulleen forward Caitlin Cunningham to their Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) roster for 2008-09.
Cunningham, who stands at 192cm, will be expected to provide an inside presence off the bench for the Rangers this summer.
The 22-year-old is currently playing for the Nunawading Spectres in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL), having previously played minor roles with the WNBL’s Boomers and Capitals.
Dandenong coach Dale Waters believes Cunningham will be a vital cog in the Rangers wheel next season.
“Caitlin’s athleticism and offensive scoring mentality are two key attributes that the Rangers were seeking as we build for the forthcoming season,” he said.
“For a 22-year-old, Caitlin has had some good WNBL and international experience to date, and the Rangers will be looking for her to have an impact at her new home.”
Dandenong hosted trials for available squad positions on Monday night, with players from throughout Victoria, as well as New South Wales, Queensland and Indonesia, vying for a spot on Waters’ roster.
