THE Victorian Electoral Commission is encouraging people who will be away for the 26 November City of Greater Dandenong council elections to make voting arrangements in advance.
Returning Officer for the Greater Dandenong City Council elections Bill Irvine said it was important that people planned ahead to ensure they have their say on the future directions of their local council.
“Most people will vote on election day but it might not suit some people to vote on election day. They might be away on the day, or unwell.
“People in this position can vote ahead of election day,” Mr Irvine said.
Voters can vote in person at the Returning Officer’s Office, 20 Mason Street, Dandenong, from Thursday, 27 October (9am to 5pm weekdays).
Voters can also vote at the following locations between 9am and 5pm from Wednesday, 23 November to Friday, 25 November:
•Dandenong Service Centre, 39 Clow Street, Dandenong,
•Reserve Hall — Keysborough, District Senior Citizens Community Hall, 352 Cheltenham Road, Keysborough,
•Springvale Customer Service Centre, 397405 Springvale Road, Springvale.
“Alternatively, voters can apply for a postal vote,” Mr Irvine said.
“This particularly suits voters who are homebound or in hospital.
“Voters need to complete and send an application form as soon as possible.”

Mr Irvine said voting was compulsory for all enrolled residents but nonresident voters and voters aged 70 years or more will not be fined for not voting.
