Do you like to tinker with electronics and automobiles? Edwin Vandenberg and his staff at Injectronics Australia certainly do, and it has won the company a place in Victoria’s Manufacturing Hall of Fame.
Injectronics Australia will celebrate its 25th year of business next month, marking a quarter-century of rich history.
“We remanufacture innovative solutions for transportation electronics,” Mr Vandenberg said.
“What that means is we repair auto electronics computers that are run in cars, such as climate controls and ABS units.
“The remanufacturing process is ideally a process which repairs the unit and also puts in a repair with the aim of the product being of high quality, so the same problem doesn’t happen again.”
Mr Vandenberg said business had become increasingly global with automobile manufacturers selling the same parts, and sometimes the same cars, worldwide.
“So if we have a particular problem component then there could possibly be a world market for it,” he said.
“That’s why we export componentry and test equipment for countries across the globe.”
Mr Vandenberg said electronics work such as that at Injectronics Australia was for people who had an interest in both automobiles and electronics.
“It’s always ideal to find someone with an interest in both of those areas, but at times it has been a challenge for us,” he said.
“I think it’s the uniqueness of the work environment and people not being aware what we’re doing in Australia.
“(The company) is very fortunate – we have a fantastic mix of people from electronics engineers through to assemblers, and they all work together with the aim of remanufacturing the various components.”
Mr Vandenberg said most post-secondary school courses would qualify people for work at Injectronics.
“We’ve employed TAFE students, university graduates, and I’m aware there is a range of post-secondary courses people can do who have an interest in electronics and automotive vehicles,” he said. “Manufacturing is such a diverse industry, from the stereotypical types through to a very high level of design and ingenuity.
“We have world-class companies here in Victoria and, in particular, Melbourne’s south east area.”
