Engine fire stops car in its tracks

FIREFIGHTERS closed off part of Dandenong-Frankston Road to extinguish a flaming car last Saturday.
Firefighters from Dandenong and Hallam attended the call out at 11.30am on Saturday 21 June when a Holden Statesman Caprice caught fire while travelling south down Dandenong-Frankston Road in Dandenong South.
Firefighters said the driver pulled off the road and on to a grassy area before rushing to a nearby furniture store to call the fire brigade.
A Carrum Downs support vehicle that was in the area arrived first and blocked one lane of traffic to protect other cars until the fire crews arrived.
The car was connected to LPG but the fire was contained to the front engine bay.
