IT looks to be a four-horse race to be the next Greater Dandenong mayor.
Councillors John Kelly, Peter Brown, Heang Tak and Loi Truong have flagged interest in taking on the role.
“They’re just going through the motions and seeing what support they have,” Cr Jim Memeti said.
The winner will be decided through a councillor vote at a statutory meeting on Thursday 5 November.
“I may not get another opportunity after all these years in local government,” Cr Kelly said.
“I’ll put my hand up.
“Maybe I am coming towards the end of my career. The next election’s only 12 months away.”
Cr Tak said it was “still early in the piece”.
“I don’t want to speculate at this stage,” he said.
“It’s something that I’d like to do.
“If offered the opportunity I’d give my very best efforts to serve the community in that capacity.
“It’s about the opportunity to get more involved and be a better councillor.”
Cr Brown said “both hands are up!” while Cr Truong did not return the Journal’s calls.
