Dandy remembrance

REMEMBRANCE Day ceremonies were held throughout Greater Dandenong on Tuesday to commemorate those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country during various conflicts.
A crowd gathered around the Dandenong Cenotaph at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month to celebrate their achievements rather than the loss of life.
Dandenong RSL member John Wells spoke standing above the Pillars of Freedom surrounding the cenotaph about remembering the sacrifices made to make possible the life we live today.
“We are very fortunate to live where we can speak of patriotism, duty and service proudly,” Mr Wells said.
“It is all about giving them the respect they deserve.”
Following the minute’s silence those who attended were asked to place a poppy in a box before the cenotaph while Amazing Grace was played on the bagpipes.
