Denis Walter headlines a tradition

CAROLS by candlelight is back for another year in Dandenong.
Crowd favourite Denis Walter will headline the artists at this year’s Greater Dandenong carols by candlelight this Friday.
Walter, whose distinctive voice has wooed audiences across internationally for many years, is a long-time supporter of the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce carols.
“It is always good to come back to Dandenong,’’ he said. “Given some nice weather, there is no better place to celebrate Christmas than under the trees in the Dandenong Park.’’
Walter will be joined on stage by an outstanding cast including the City of Greater Dandenong Band, Police Showband vocalist Daina Jowsey, up-and-coming opera singer Samuel Dundas and Santa.
Starting the show at 6.30pm will be an appearance by characters from the cartoon film Despereaux, which will be released early next year. The show will end with fireworks at 10pm.
The carols are in their 61st year, with the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce receiving support for the event from the Greater Dandenong Council and VicUrban.
Chamber president Stephen Dunn urged everyone to come along. “It is a great family night with plenty of atmosphere. There are some top-class artists in a lovely venue. What could be better?’’ he said.
The carols will be held this Friday, December 19, in Dandenong Park, Pultney Street, Dandenong, from 6.30.
