A NOBLE Park woman, 33, is expected to be charged after leaving a baby in a locked car on Monday.
The four-month-old boy was treated for dehydration after he was rescued by emergency services as a result of a call from a passer-by.
The locked car was parked outside Savers on Lonsdale Street, Dandenong.
A Metropolitan Fire Brigade unit opened the car and Ambulance Victoria Paramedics freed the child.
Dandenong CIU Detective Senior Sergeant Russell Church said the woman had been released on summons and was expected to be charged with leaving a child unattended.
He said the Department of Human Services was also investigating the matter.
Paramedic Jane Bartley said the door of the car had been opened by the Fire Brigade before paramedics arrived.
“The car was in the sun and the boy was red in the face and sweating,” she said.
“He was transported to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition suffering dehydration.”
Ambulance Victoria operations manager Paul Holman said parents should avoid exposing their children to the heat of the day and in no circumstances leave a child unattended in a car.
“It only takes a few minutes for a car to heat to 60 degrees and those few minutes can have tragic consequences for a young child,” he said.
In the lead-up to warmer weather, Mr Holman also warned joggers, cyclists and the elderly to take care of themselves.
