PEOPLE who wish to make donations towards the bush fire relief efforts are urged to contact the Red Cross first.
Police are asking that people refrain from calling 000 or other emergency information lines with donation offers.
Police, emergency services and recovery workers will conduct a thorough assessment of the fire-affected areas in a bid to determine where resources need to be distributed most effectively.
Plans are being put in place to establish a relief fund, and police ask that people refrain from making donations until this line has been announced.
Police are also urging people to refrain from donating items to relief centres, as the abundance of donations is making normal operations difficult.
People wanting to make donations are asked to contact the Red Cross, which is assisting with the collection of relief items.
The Red Cross information line is 1800 727 077.
