Stirring tale of rural courage

DANDENONG’S Drum Theatre will host one of the best pieces of Australian musical theatre when The Tank plays on Friday 27 February.
The musical, which is in its 13th season, is a celebration of the idea of family and spirit of place. The musical brings together the personal experiences of growing up in rural Australia of film-maker and playwright Steve Thomas and his brother, former Weddings, Parties and Anything front-man, Mick Thomas.
Central character Dora Carney battles with bushfires, police, councils, a water tank that is always empty and her husband and six children, with the story being largely told through the eyes of her eldest son Harold.
“The Tank’s heart-wrenching tale of drought-stricken battlers in rural Australia is more relevant than ever,” said cultural facilities services director Paul Streefkerk.
“Audiences can relate to the stories as they unfold and the live music ensures audiences are left entertained from start to finish.”
The Tank is showing on Friday 27 February at 8pm. For details or tickets contact the Drum Theatre box office on 9771 6666.
