Elsie Gelmi turned 100 yesterday (Wednesday), celebrating with 50 friends and family.
A Dandenong resident since the early 1970s, Ms Gelmi now lives in Endeavour Hills at an aged care hostel. Her daughter Rosalea said that people had travelled from as far as Queensland and Western Australia to join the festivities.
“This is the first time that everyone has come together for over 20 years,” she said.
“It is a lovely milestone to celebrate.”
Great grand-daughter Rebecca Stewart said she was excited to attend the party.
“It’s not every day you go to a 100th birthday party,” she said.
“I hope I will be able to live to 100, my dad says it’s in the genes so you never know.”
