COMMUNITY VCAL classes have commenced at Keysborough Learning Centre, offering students the opportunity to learn work place and personal development skills in a relaxed environment.
Some 13 students, between the ages of 15 and 24, are enrolled to take part in the program.
The classes offer students who find it hard to cope with mainstream education, or are too old to attend, the opportunity to continue their education.
“It is more relaxed than mainstream school and is heaps of fun,” said VCAL student Krystelle Teuira.
This year students are offered either foundation or intermediate education, once they have been assessed.
The students study in the areas of English, maths, work-related skills, computers, business and children’s services, as well as assist with the organisation of various fundraisers.
Within VCAL students are able to access vocational training and as part of their work related skills are required to do work experience.
Program co-ordinator Mary Fox said that the students with be involved in a program with Players United.
This program allows the students to participate in activities aimed to increase their confidence, team work and leadership skills.
