THE City of Greater Dandenong Council decided this week to add up to $421,592 to the Dandenong Market redevelopment contract, for the construction of cool rooms.
The capital cost of the cool rooms will be recovered through the tenancy costs from the fruit and vegetable traders, who will occupy the space.
The contract initially envisioned that site owners would be responsible for the construction of the cool rooms in the space council planned to make available to them. However this risked delaying the construction schedule.
The Market Project Control Group has discussed this variation in the contract with traders.
The construction of cool rooms will assist in removing trader truck parking from the customer car park, the aim of the market redevelopment.
