Students see the light of night

By Melissa Meehan
SEEING the light in the dark kept Silverton Primary school students busy on Friday during their own version of Earth Hour.
At 2.30pm on the day before the official Earth Hour the students turned off all electrical equipment and lights to reduce greenhouse emissions.
Organised by the school’s Environment Club, students sent out hand-made flyers and wrote up commitment letters for friends and families so they could get an idea of how many people participated.
The information they collected will now be sent to the organisers of Earth Hour to add to the number of people who participated worldwide. Teacher Emmanuel Blake said it all started when students were shown a video about Earth Hour.
“Students at the school have also learnt about greenhouse gases and global warming,” she said.
“They all hope that everyone joined in and participated to help save our earth.”
