Driver walks after cops catch burn-out

By Victoria Stone-Meadows

A young driver has lost his wheels after tearing up his tyres doing a burnout in the traffic island of an intersection in Keysborough early on Sunday 16 April.
The 18-year-old driver from Longwarry was pulled over just before 3.30am after police saw the Ford Falcon rip through the intersection of the Dandenong Bypass and Chapel Road in Keysborough.
The young man’s car was impounded for 30 days and he will be charged on summons with improper use of a vehicle.
The intercept forms part of Operation Nexus, a state-wide road safety focus for all police until Anzac Day.
Police will target speed, fatigue, distraction, seatbelt non-compliance and impaired driving in an effort to reduce road trauma and raise awareness around road user behaviour.
The operation runs for 13 days from midnight on Thursday 13 April until midnight on Tuesday 25 April.
