The $300 million Mordialloc Bypass will drastically reduce congestion in the South East, says the State Government.
Roads Minister Luke Donnellan announced that the 9km road between Springvale Road in Aspendale Gardens and the Dingley Bypass would be funded through the 2017-’18 State Budget.
An overpass will separate the bypass from Springvale Road.
Keysborough South Action Group spokeswoman Nina Kelly said the road would help Greater Dandenong motorists to access work and childcare.
“For Keysborough residents, there are not enough places for childcare, so there are a lot of residents going to Aspendale Gardens for childcare,” she said.
Traffic signals will be installed at other intersections and a shared cycling and pedestrian path will be constructed along the full length.
Residents, business owners and road users will be asked for input on concept designs in the coming months.
VicRoads will also consult with local councils, freight operators and bus companies.
The project is expected to be completed by 2021.
