Dandy’s moments of fame

THE outstanding achievements of the Greater Dandenong manufacturing industry were recognised last month at the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame awards ceremony with more than 40 per cent of the awards going to local businesses.
The awards celebrate local companies and individuals and their dedication, creativity and energy that will see Victorian manufacturing continue to go from strength to strength even in the present economic climate.
Industry and Trade Minister Martin Pakula, who presented the awards at a gala dinner, acknowledged the vital role of the manufacturing industry in the Victorian economy.
“Manufacturing is Victoria’s largest provider of full-time jobs, employing 315,700 people or close to 12 per cent of the state’s workforce, and contributing $30.6 billion to Victoria’s economy,” he said.
“I congratulate all the new inductees to the Hall of Fame along with the 2009 Young Manufacturer of the Year, David Fitzpatrick, and welcome two new members of the Honour Roll: Bruce Parker and Darryl Page.”
He said in light of “tough economic times”, securing the job of every Victorian was a top priority of the State Government.
Sandra George was awarded the Jim Watkins Award for her hard work and determination in making a significant contribution to the manufacturing industry.
